ore 8:00 Departure from Lanciano by bus with tourist / excursion guide on board. Transfer by bus toVillallago along the SR479 Sannite, one of the most scenic roads in Abruzzo, vertiginously overlooking the Gorges of Sagittarius.
ore 9:45-12:20 Excursion from the historic center of Villalago to Lake of San Domenico and visit to the Hermitage of San Domenico. In the Upper Sagittarius Valley, the green of the woods is tinged with blue
of the clear waters of Lake San Domenico, which takes its name from the hermitage overlooking its shores where the saint so dear to the Abruzzese and to whom they attribute many prodigious miracles lived in solitude and contemplation. Excursion technical data: 5,3 km – 190 m height difference (difficulty is T, suitable for school-age children, dai 6 years up).
Bus transfer to theScanno lake.
ore 12:30-14:30 Lunch outdoors at Agriturismo Miralago overlooking Lake Scanno (first and second with a side dish to choose between two proposals and dessert or coffee + water and wine)
ore 14:30-15:30 Walk of 1,5 km along the banks of theScanno lake up to the suggestive church of S.Maria dell’Annunziata. Transfer by bus to Valle Scannese.
ore 16:30-17:00 Smallcheese tasting at the company of Gregorio Rotolo
ore 17:30-18:30 Guided tour in the historic center ofScanno. Through the alleys of the ancient village of Scanno it is possible to retrace the history of a time when pastoralism and craftsmanship made this village one of the richest centers in Abruzzo. The monumental buildings bear witness to this, fountains and numerous churches, like the parish church of S. Maria della Valle. The numerous goldsmith shops perpetuate an ancient tradition whose most famous product is the Presentosa, still worn by Scannese women together with the traditional dress that in the past declared its social class. We recommend to taste and buy the excellent Scacciese mostacciolo at the "Pan dell’Orso" Pastry Shop.
