Nature walk to discover the "Lecceta di Torino di Sangro" Regional Nature Reserve, one of the last surviving strips of coastal woodland wreck of the Adriatic, mainly consisting of holm oaks and downy oaks. The wood extends for 175 hectares between the beach of the Borgata Marina the southeast bank of the Sangro river and home to many animal species including a small natural population of terrestrial tortoise (Testudo hermanni), symbol of the Reserve.
On the top of the hill on whose slopes the forest develops, there is a lonely place where time stood still in November 1943, when the allied army collided with the German army in the Battle of the Sangro. The fallen young soldiers rest under the green lawn of the British War Cemetery, embellished with a multitude of colorful flowers in all seasons of the year.
N.B. The excursion can be modulated according to the request of the participants. We will start with an easy loop hike of 1,5 km in the woods, suitable for everyone. Then it will be optional to continue the excursion with a further path 1,2 km uphill (and as many downhill to go back) to visit the British War Cemetery.
