From time immemorial in Cocullo perpetuates the tradition of celebration of San Domenico and serpents, that in the days before the festival captures the snakes that will be used during the procession to "decorate" the statue of the saint in procession. A visit to the village during this important holiday allows you to breathe the magic of ancestral rites whose origins are lost in the mists of time and that come from pagan religions.
In the afternoon we will move to Raiano to see its famous hermitage of San Venancio, nestled between the homonymous gorges carved over millennia by the river Aterno.
Last stop of the day will be the beautiful basilica of San Pelino in Corfinio, one of the most important and oldest in the region, whose frescos and stone decorations that tell the story of a glorious time when the Diocese of Valva (today Corfinio) It was an undisputed center of power.
PROGRAM:
Ore 7,15 – Participants Meet at the Visitor Center of Coastal biotope, waterfront C. Colombo north side, San Salvo Marina and travel by own car. For participants with different backgrounds from Vasto-San Salvo, agreeing on a specific date or directly to the place of beginning of the excursion.
Ore 9,30 – Check in Cocullo, visit to the village with the possibility to watch the procession in historical costume of ciambellati, to approach serpari to become familiar with snakes and attend Holy Mass at 11.00
Ore 12.00 – Procession of San Domenico
– Lunch by the participants
Ore 14.30 – Visit the hermitage of San Venanzio to Raiano
Ore 16.00 – Visit to the Basilica of San Pelino and the Oratory of St. Alexander in Corfinio
Ore 19,30 – Return to the Visitor Center of Coastal Biotope of San Salvo Marina
